Founder of Fork in the Road Wellness

Meet Deb Agnew

Strategic Psychotherapist. Clinical Hypnotherapist

Licensed Therapist | BSc Psych | Dip Psych | Dip Hyp

Hi, I’m Deb. If you're tired of feeling unwell and want to feel better — not someday, but now — you've landed in the right place.

I’m a qualified Solution-Focused Strategic Psychotherapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist, with advanced training from the Institute of Applied Psychology in Sydney, at the forefront of the strategic approach, with the most comprehensive qualifications available today.  I have a 4-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Canada’s esteemed McGill University.

In addition to my private practice, I work at the Black Dog Institute, a world-leading mental health research organisation, promoting the prevention and treatment of anxiety and depression. This helps inform my work, giving you access to the latest science and evidence in creating better mental health, as well as effective digital tools, resources and strategies.

I started Fork in the Road Wellness to help people who are at a crossroads with their health — facing a diagnosis, disease, injury, trauma, loss, or a chronic condition — reclaim their wellbeing and take back control of their life.

The people I work with are often sick and tired of being sick and tired. Their body and mind are telling them that something must change, yet they feel stuck, unable to do it, unsure where to turn, or exhausted from trying approaches that haven’t worked. They’re ready for a holistic, mind–body approach that creates real change from the inside out.

People come to me with a wide range of challenges including obesity, metabolic conditions, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, migraines, gut and microbiome issues, menopause, sleep issues, addiction, and many others.

Through clinical hypnosis and strategic psychotherapy, I create the internal environment where the body can restore balance, recalibrate, and heal. By guiding the nervous system out of chronic stress and into a state of rest, repair, and regeneration, the brain can be retrained, symptoms reduced, and wellness can return. Change becomes possible not just at the mental level but at the cellular one.

This is not a quick fix, and it’s not about wishful or positive thinking. It’s about accessing your body’s natural pharmacy, the chemicals, signals, and biological processes that support healing, and removing the unconscious barriers that keep you stuck.

You have more influence on your health than you know

Most people don’t realise that around 95% of our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are driven by unconscious patterns and regulated by the autonomic nervous system.

This system controls vital processes including inflammation, hormone production, immune function, digestion, blood sugar regulation, cardiovascular function, sleep, stress responses, and pain perception.

Dysregulation in these mechanisms can contribute to a wide range of health challenges, from metabolic and immune conditions to anxiety, depression, chronic pain, cardiovascular issues, digestive disorders, insomnia, and menopausal symptoms. Conventional medicine often overlooks this side of health, yet targeting these underlying processes through mind-body approaches, clinical hypnosis and lifestyle interventions can unlock profound and lasting healing.

The good news is...

You are not broken.

You’ve simply been reinforcing patterns, often for years, that no longer serve or protect you. Those patterns can be changed in ways that feel achievable, grounded, and even enjoyable.

Lifestyle as medicine has the potential to prevent up to 80% of chronic diseases. No other medicine can match that. This approach is central to how I support healing — helping you eat better, stress less, move more, and love more. Change becomes part of your everyday rhythm, not just something that happens once a week in therapy.

My work honours curiosity, compassion, and your capacity to move forward in a new direction. I have a deep reverence for the power of the mind, the wisdom of the heart, and the resilience of the human spirit.

Long term change, transformation and healing IS possible. Wellness is within reach. You are at a critical fork in the road — and how you choose this next step can shape your health, your wellbeing, and the life you truly want and deserve.

I get what it's like

Professional with a deeply personal understanding

Having faced my own health challenges over the past two decades, I understand the frustration, fear, and despair that can come with not having answers — or feeling like you’re being passed from one specialist to another without relief. I get what it’s like to feel unheard or powerless in your healing. I also know how soul destroying it is to want to create healthy habits, knw you need to but still can't do it.

My own experience has helped inform my approach.

That’s why my work is built on empowerment — helping you shift patterns, regain control, and support your health from the inside.

The following examples are how I was able to restore balance, interrupt deeply ingrained habits, and reclaim my health and wellbeing:

  • I reversed a pre-diabetic, obesity-related metabolic condition, lost over 25 kilograms (more than 50 pounds), and now thrive on a vibrant, plant-based diet rooted in nourishment — not restriction.
  • I overcame a lifelong habit of emotional eating, moving from fed up to fulfilled and no longer ‘feeding my feelings.’
  • I recovered from severe chronic migraines which I experienced daily over a 4-month period and haven't had a migraine since.
  • I broke free from a 20-year smoking addiction through self-hypnosis — without cravings or relapse.
  • I navigated burnout, perfectionism, and all-or-nothing thinking, learning when “enough is enough.”

This isn’t just theory for me. It’s lived experience. How you live your life 24/7 has a huge impact on your health and healing.
